A flood watch is now in effect for the entire KVOE listening area, with the prospect of severe storms and heavy rainfall in the forecast in the latter half of the week.
The watch covers Lyon and all surrounding counties from Thursday morning until Friday evening, with areas potentially receiving anywhere from 1.5 to 2 inches between that same time frame, according to current models from the National Weather Service. In addition to the rainfall, the weather service has the area in a marginal to slight weather risk, with the southern portions of Lyon and Chase counties and the entirety of Greendwood and Coffey Counties in the slight risk area.
Aside from the rainfall, the main hazards will also include the potential for damaging winds.
Once the storms clear the area, hot and humid conditions will be ahead for the weekend, with heat index readings between Saturday and the following Tuesday ranging anywhere from 99 to 105. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for more weather updates as warranted.
