It’s bowl time in Emporia as activities for the 53rd annual Kansas Shrine Bowl begin Friday.
The festivities will officially kick off, no pun intended, with the Shrine Bowl golf tournament at the Emporia Golf Course Friday morning. The tournament will begin at 8 am with registration, followed by play starting at 9 am.
The golf tournament will be followed by the Shrine Bowl Fan Fest on the campus of Emporia State University, starting at 6 pm. Fan Fest will include a player autograph session, food trucks, a beer garden, a kids zone, a mechanical football and more.
KVOE will have the rolling radio show on site, broadcasting from 5 pm to 7:30 pm.
This all leads up to Shrine Bowl Saturday, which will include a free health screening in the afternoon, courtesy of the Kansas Shriners and Shriners Children of St. Louis. The screening event will be held at the Kansas Masonic Lodge 12 at 424 Merchant Street from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm and according to Shriner John Sidwell, it is “very simple” to take advantage of the opportunity.
Shrine Bowl Executive Director Brice Kesler says the health screening is an opportunity they try to provide each year and will continue to do so as it “expands on the real purpose and real meaning” of the event.
The health screening will follow the annual Shrine Bowl parade in downtown Emporia, starting at 10 am. The 53rd annual Shrine Bowl game will be played inside ESU’s Welch Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm. Gates will open at 5 pm for fans and pregame festivities will begin at 6:15 pm.
A full schedule of events, ticket information and more can be found by visiting Kansasshrinebowl.com.
This is the second time in the last three years Emporia has hosted the Shrine Bowl and is the first of three consecutive years the game will come to Emporia, now through 2028.
