After receiving recent investments from the community, Emporia’s Good Way Gardens is looking to return that investment to Emporia residents and artists.
During an appearance on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia this past Tuesday, Good Way Executive Director Elexa Dawson praised the local community and various entities for their recent donations of facilities and money. Specifically, Dawson credited Mitchell Markowitz and the Lions Club for two major contributions to the organization, the first being the former Union Street Social Club space that has become Good Way’s new base of operations in recent weeks.
As for the Lions Club, Dawson says a recent $2,000 donation from the organization will see Good Way offering a new set of programming aimed at promoting local artists, both in music and the culinary arts, and supporting local students during the school year.
Dawson says the full details are still being finalized for the new Wednesday program, but this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to plans for the space, as she is also looking to provide more programming, drop-in opportunities and much more in the coming months. She explains this is all part of Good Way’s plan to make the space at 225 East Sixth Avenue an “incubator space” that will foster a variety of arts and talents saying increase the diversity and variety of experiences for residents saying, “Diversity is strength in a community.”
Dawson’s appearance comes as Good Way continues its Good Way Sunday concert series in Fremont Park. The next concert will take place next Sunday, July 5th, featuring Unfit Wives, with the concert running from 4 to 6 pm.
