St. Mark’s Lutheran Church had to battle Mother Nature, starting with some soggy conditions from the week’s rainfall, for its biggest annual fundraiser Sunday, according to Pastor Kent Happel.
Despite the elements not fully cooperating in the lead-up and day of the event, the sixth annual Rod’n 4 JC car show still had a great turnout with right around 30 vehicles registered. That included a 1969 Chevrolet Step Side Pickup owned by Bruce Burenheide.
Burenheide, who purchased the vehicle in 1977, called the truck a family heirloom of sorts.
Meanwhile, Jeff Shirley was showcasing his 1957 Station Wagon, which he says holds a lot of sentimental value.
In addition to the vehicles on display, the event also included a cake walk, food, drinks, homemade ice cream, hot wheels races and a cornhole tournament. Pastor Happel says all proceeds from the event will go to support the church’s Random Acts of Kindness ministry through which they have been able to bless many residents over the last six years.
Fundraising totals from Rod’n 4 JC are currently pending.
