US Kansas Second District Congressman Derek Schmidt is working across the aisle to ensure success for small-town local businesses with the introduction of a new piece of legislation.
During his monthly appearance on KVOE’s Morning Show this past Friday, Schmidt discussed his bipartisan work with Democrat Hillary Scholten representing Michigan’s third district to develop the Main Street Competes Act. According to Schmidt, the legislation focuses on how the government goes about enforcing federal antitrust laws.
Schmidt says that particular focus is “Increasingly important” as small-town businesses exist in every sector, but especially in retail where “mom and pop” establishments are often going up against multi-billion-dollar corporations.
The legislation, which recently passed the House of Representatives, is currently making its way through the Senate and has a good amount of support, including from New Hampshire District 2 Democratic Representative Maggie Goodlander, the Main Street Competition Coalition, the National Grocers Association, the Responsible Online Commerce Coalition, and the Main Street Business Coalition.
The legislation is currently being reviewed by the Senate. You can view the legislation here.
