Development of Lyon County’s new 911 dispatch facility is moving along well thus far, with work on the physical structure likely to begin soon.
According to Lyon County Emergency Communications Center Director Roxanne Van Gundy, work is ongoing on the facility pad, with the building itself set to arrive within the next two months.
Given a “good buffer” for weather, specifically during the winter season, Van Gundy says the facility should be completed by the early half of 2027, possibly in February or March. As the process continues to roll forward, Van Gundy says each month and each major community event that passes brings with it a “strange” sense of excitement.
Once the structure is completed, Van Gundy says the move-in process would likely begin in late February or early March, starting with the infrastructure connection process, again assuming everything goes according to plan.
The new facility has been in the works since mid-April of 2025, when the project was first publicly discussed in connection with the development of a new shooting range for local law enforcement. The facility, which costs in excess of $5 million when combined with the new firing range project, will bring several benefits to emergency communications staff, namely increased space for operations, training and other needs.
