Local business owner Jessica Symonds’ childhood fantasy became a reality a few years ago and now it has a new location where she hopes more residents will be able to bask in it with her.
Symmonds and her staff of Gourmet to Go held a ribbon-cutting at their new location, the former Cooltura Connexion nightclub space, at 707 Commercial Street late Friday morning. Symmonds, in an interview with KVOE News Thursday, stated the space is the culmination of years of hard work that began in the basement of the Emporia Humanitarian Center.
Symmonds also says that since she began operations back in 2018, she has felt like she is continuously living a dream that started when she was a young girl.
Gourmet to Go will now occupy the same building space as Imaginarium, which moved to the front of 707 Commercial late last year. The building’s owner, Jenny Losada, originally converted the former Casa Ramos space into a nightclub and event venue a few years back. While the business has changed noticeably, Losada, who was at Thursday’s event, told KVOE News it is still meeting the original purpose she had intended of blending cultures within the community.
Although it now has the new storefront, Gourmet to Go will continue operating solely as a catering business with the event space available for rent and use for private and community events. That said, Symmonds says she never passes up an opportunity and should the opportunity arise to turn the space into a sit-down restaurant, the business could certainly make that transition in the future.
