Emporia and Lyon County had slight year-to-year decreases in population in the 2025 Certified Kansas Population by County report.
Released by the Kansas Division of Budget on Wednesday, the report shows Emporia’s population declined from 24.534 in 2024 to 24,137 last year, a decline of 0.9 percent. Other Lyon County towns had their populations stay virtually flat:
*Admire population went from 137 in 2024 to 134 last year, a dip of 2.2 percent
*Allen’s population went from 165 to 162, a decline of 1.2 percent
*Americus’ population went up slightly, from 779 to 782 or up 0.4 percent
*Bushong’s population stayed flat at 28
*Hartford’s population dipped from 364 to 360, down 1.1 percent
*Neosho Rapids’ population went from 239 to 238, a dip of 0.4 percent
*Olpe’s population went from 528 to 529, an increase of 0.2 percent
*Reading’s population went from 184 to 183, down 0.5 percent
All told, Lyon County’s population went down 0.8 percent, from 32,520 to 32,266.
Several area counties had overall population increases.
Chase County: 2,507 in 2024. 2,572 in 2025, up 2.6 percent
*Cedar Point’s population went from 20 to 22, up 10 percent
*Cottonwood Falls’ population went from 833 to 860, up 3.2 percent
*Elmdale’s population went from 40 to 41, up 2.5 percent
*Matfield Green’s population was flat at 50
*Strong City’s population went from 377 to 385, up 2.1 percent
Coffey County: 8,301 in 2024. 8,467 in 2025, up 2 percent
*Burlington’s population went from 2,596 to 2,640, up 1.7 percent
*Gridley’s population went from 313 to 321, up 2.6 percent
*Lebo’s population went from 887 to 918, up 3.5 percent
*Leroy’s population went from 446 to 457, up 2.5 percent
*New Strawn’s population increased from 419 to 427, up 1.9 percent
*Waverly’s population went from 570 to 577, up 1.2 percent
Morris County: 5,279 in 2024. 5,348 in 2025, up 1.3 percent
*Council Grove’s population went from 2,101 to 2,130, up 1.4 percent
*Dunlap’s population stayed flat at 28
*Dwight’s population went from 210 to 211, up 0.5 percent
*Latimer’s population went from 30 to 32, up 6.7 percent
*Parkerville’s population went from 47 to 48, up 2.1 percent
*White City’s population went from 437 to 442, up 1.1 percent
*Wilsey’s population went from 139 to 141, up 1.4 percent
Other counties had population decreases.
Greenwood County: 5,871 in 2024. 5,826 in 2025, down 0.8 percent
*Climax’s population stayed level at 45
*Eureka’s population went from 2,249 to 2,239, down 0.4 percent
*Fall River’s population went from 127 to 126, down 0.8 percent
*Hamilton’s population went from 179 to 174, down 2.8 percent
*Madison’s population went from 668 to 663, down 0.7 percent
*Severy’s population went from 197 to 196, down 0.5 percent
*Virgin’s population went from 47 to 45, down 4.3 percent
Osage County: 15,737 in 2024. 15,693 in 2025, down 0.3 percent
*Burlingame’s population went from 939 to 925, down 1.5 percent
*Carbondale’s population went from 1,306 to 1,296, down 0.8 percent
*Lyndon’s population went from 1,037 to 1,032, down 0.5 percent
*Melvern’s population went from 345 to 340, down 1.4 percent
*Olivet’s population went from 74 to 75, up 1.4 percent
*Osage City’s population went from 2,799 to 2,784, down 0.5 percent
*Overbrook’s population went from 998 to 995, down 1.3 percent
*Quenemo’s population went from 287 to 286, down 0.3 percent
*Scranton’s population went from 641 to 637, down 0.6 percent
Wabaunsee County: 7,112 in 2024. 7,018 in 2025, down 1.3 percent
*Alma’s population went from 839 to 830, down 1.1 percent
*Alta Vista’s population went from 412 to 401, down 2.7 percent
*Eskridge’s population went from 437 to 427, down 2.3 percent
*Harveyville’s population went fmo 178 to 172, down 3.4 percent
*McFarland’s population went from 280 to 274, down 2.1 percent
*Maple Hill’s population went from 639 to 628, down 1.7 percent
