You were promised a bang-up Fourth of July fireworks show in Emporia, and that’s what you got.
Nearly 30 minutes of crowd-pleasing explosions launched from the north end of the Emporia State University campus, and the fireworks went off seamlessly after a day involving periods of heavy rain. Pyrotechnician Bernie Toso and his crew took extra care to protect the fireworks, and they watched the forecast for the potential of severe weather for most of the day before that risk died by early evening.
While Emporia’s activities Saturday went off without a hitch, the same can’t be said elsewhere. Gridley had to delay several activities, including the fireworks show. Lyndon had to cancel its parade and move afternoon activities to Jones Park.
