Next week, the Americus City Council will get another update on the process to dissolve its police department.
City Clerk Dodie Doudna says the overall process is largely completed. There may be a renewed conversation about evidence transfers as part of the City Council meeting July 14.
The conversation later this month follows a couple important points of business from last month. The city’s police cruiser was sold at auction, receiving the minimum amount of $8,000. At last month’s meeting, it was announced that certain evidence will be picked up by Lyon County and eventually destroyed.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will handle law enforcement matters in Americus once the police department is officially decommissioned.
