Plans are cooking — pun fully intended — to bring a national sub shop to northwest Emporia this year and to return another restaurant to a long-dormant location.
Jersey Mike’s announced plans back in March. Spokesman Mario Fuentes says the restaurant will be at 2326 Industrial Suite 500, taking over the former Check into Cash space between Great Clips and Spa Royal. Fuentes is targeting late fall for the restaurant to open.
Jersey Mike’s has around 3,300 restaurants across the country. The restaurant would join Planet Sub and Subway as local sub shops.
Separately, Burger King’s renewed east Emporia location has seen a lot of progress recently, with concrete poured for the area immediately around the restaurant and walls in the framing process.
It has been a year since local management announced plans to return to 1215 East 12th, where Burger King had operated for years before filing a demolition permit in December 2010. Updates from the company have been sparse since the initial announcement, which indicated the new facility is part of Burger King’s “Sizzle” concept as part of the restaurant chain’s $400 million “Reclaim the Flame” initiative nationally, announced in 2022. The original plan had BK installing double drive-thru lanes, digital ordering kiosks, menu enhancements and updated dining room decor and exterior.
