A statewide census count is getting underway a week from Monday, but it’s measuring something other than just population.
Emporia’s Good Way Gardens is joining Kansas Music Cities Together to take part in the state music census, which surveys musicians, venues and industry professionals within a given location. Good Way Executive Director Elexa Dawson, in a recent interview with KVOE News, explained the purpose of the music census is to map out the local “music ecosystem.”
Dawson also explained the music ecosystem encompasses more than just “gigging musicians” or promoters but also includes anyone who regularly provides musical entertainment or performances and those individuals will also be a focus of their efforts.
The data set to be collected through the census will help to provide more insight into both the needs and opportunities within the local ecosystem as well as its impact on the larger community, with Dawson saying that information can open a lot of doors down the road.
The survey will go live beginning July 20 and will be entirely digital. For more information on the census or how to be involved, find Good Way Gardens on Facebook.
