Evergy confirms it has started conversations with landowners near the Emporia Energy Center about the prospect of solar energy.
Senior Communications Manager of Media Matt Lucht says the utility met with landowners near the facility on Road 200 near Road S, following letters to nearby landowners a few weeks ago.
While solar power is a key component of data centers elsewhere, Lucht says the potential solar energy project is unrelated to the proposed Flint Hills Digital Campus in far west Emporia and was actually part of a need for more energy power identified for all Evergy customers, not just one end user, over 6 years ago.
Evergy has not confirmed a map posted on social media detailing potential locations in all directions within a mile of the Emporia Energy Center. It also has not confirmed the number of properties up for consideration or the total acreage involved.
If the development process continues, Lucht says there will be additional information meetings for the public, media and stakeholders.
