There are now more opportunities to help save lives through the Battle of the Badges blood drive.
American Red Cross spokesperson Susan Faler says over 30 appointment slots were opened up for Thursday’s first day of blood collection. Before a decision was made to bring on additional staff, Thursday’s slots were full. Friday, meanwhile, had over 50 open slots for appointments. There are now close to 50.
The Red Cross decided to bring on more staffers because the need for blood was elevated to critical levels this week. If you would like to schedule an appointment for the Battle of the Badges, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED-CROSS, or download the Red Cross donor app.
Battle of the Badges is at Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church. Donation hours are 12-6 pm Thursday and 8 am to 2 pm Friday. As usual, the blood donation event involves Emporia Fire, Emporia Police, Lyon County deputies and the Lyon County Emergency Communications department.
