A moratorium on data centers and solar power facilities will be considered by Lyon County Commissioners when they convene for their regular action meeting Thursday.
The moratorium, which, if approved, will provide for the suspension of certain types of zoning, land use and building permit applications, was proposed this past Friday by Commissioner Chris Bartel following a period of public comment on the subject of data centers and unconfirmed rumors heard by commissioners in recent weeks about the potential for a second data center project in Lyon County. If approved, the moratorium would be in effect for a period of six months during which time commissioners have stated they would review its current zoning regulations as well as research into large-scale data center developments.
Currently, the county has a ten-day stopgap in effect blocking any applications for permits related to data centers and solar farms, which ends August 1.
In other business, commissioners will consider approving Lyon County Emergency Communications Center Director Roxanne Van Gundy to pay the yearly ESRI subscription totaling just over $4,800 in a cost share between the city and county. Lyon County Controller Dan Williams will also request approval to pay the county’s annual CIC maintenance fee of more than $50,600.
The meeting will begin at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
