Staffers at Lyon County Emergency Communications have been dealing with some untoward callers recently.
The department says it has been getting calls from people who are launching offensive or abusive statements to emergency dispatchers because they don’t like unspecified matters unrelated to the department. Emergency Communications Director Roxanne Van Gundy, a guest on KVOE’s Morning Show on Friday, says calls started coming into the non-emergency phone number Thursday morning.
Because the calls came in through through the non-emergency phone tree instead of 9-1-1, dispatchers can’t immediately track the call. Regardless, Van Gundy says these abusive calls simply add to stress and the overall call load.
Van Gundy didn’t specify the reasons behind the call, but she indicated recent developments as the main issues.
The post also says this trend is not an appropriate use of the Emergency Communications Center or tax dollars.
