Mother Nature has been driving up the heat index the past several days, which means local heating and cooling professionals have been hard at work.
That includes Modern Air, according to owner Jason Hoelting, who tells KVOE News their phone has been “ringing off the hook” over the past week plus.
Randall Storrer, branch manager of Don’s Heating and Cooling, says the most common issue they experience when they get called is “standard maintenance issues,” including capacitors and condensers.
Storrer says a main contributor to the wear and tear of these components comes from the constant use of units during bouts of extreme heat.
While temperatures are set to begin declining starting Tuesday, it will still be plenty warm, meaning AC units will continue to run frequently. With that in mind, Hoelting tells KVOE News that residents can reduce stress on their units by simply adjusting the thermostat.
James Bass of Bass Heating and Air says another way to reduce strain on AC units is to make sure you are maximizing the airflow within your home.
Bass also says it’s important that when the heat is excessive outside, you should take steps to reduce the amount of heat inside.
In the future, Storrer says the best way to ensure your unit is running efficiently is to have it properly inspected before the weather turns hot.
Air temperatures will become a bit more tolerable starting Tuesday, with highs in the low to mid 90s through Thursday before we see air temps in the mid to upper 80s through the upcoming weekend.
