The 2026 induction ceremonies happened less than 2 months ago, and the National Teachers Hall of Fame is already looking at some changes for the 2027 process.
Part of that change list has to do with the schedule, and specifically with both holding the annual banquet ceremony and rededicating the National Memorial to Fallen Educators. Hall of Fame Executive Director Maddie Fennell:
Fennell says the rededication will include two new inscribed granite tablets, reflecting the names of teachers, administrators and support staffers killed in the line of duty throughout the country’s history. The tablets were funded by a special $12 for 12 campaign that was originally designed to add one tablet.
The other big change: reducing the amount of class time teachers need to be considered for the Hall. Since the Hall had its first induction class in 1992, teachers needed at least 20 years in a classroom for consideration. From this point forward, it’s now 15 years.
Fennell says there are already over 50 nominees for the 2027 class after close to 200 teachers were nominated last year.
