Emporia’s Abundant Grace food ministry continues serving the community.
Grace United Methodist Pastor Debbie Senters says numbers have been steady. There haven’t been as many people lining up for meals as there were earlier.
The Abundant Grace ministry has included the United Way of the Flint Hills, which fostered relationships and developed the overall structure, and the city of Emporia, which provided initial funding. Senters thanked those partners, as well as other churches and a lengthy list of volunteers.
Grace United Methodist agreed to be the meal program’s host site after the Emporia Rescue Mission began separating from Abundant Harvest at 1028 Whittier as a way to focus on its core mission of helping men with short-term lodging and skills enhancement. The Rescue Mission later sold the Abundant Harvest property to Whittier Place Apartments and the space will be turned into another apartment building.
Abundant Grace serves the community from 4:30-5:30 pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while food is available. Meals are served in a drive-thru format for every person in a vehicle.
