Primary Election Day has arrived in Kansas.
Lyon County had nearly 1,200 people vote in person as part of the advance ballot process, or around 5 percent of registered voters. Close to 300 mail ballots have also been returned and accepted as of late Monday.
For Lyon County voters, the ballot includes Republicans running for Lyon County Commission District 1, incumbent Ken Duft and challenger Rolland Trahoon II, as well as Republicans running to succeed Brad Barrett in the Kansas House 76th District, Art Freund, Russel Stukey and Mark Weiser. Some races will have their 2027 representation set by Tuesday night, including the Lyon County Commission race. Others, like the House 76th, will see the primary winner face off against a challenger in the November general election.
Precinct committee representatives are on all ballots this cycle, as is a constitutional amendment designed to change the initial selection method for Kansas Supreme Court justices from Nominating Commission to public vote.
Emporia residents in Precincts 19, 19A and 20 and voting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2313 Graphic Arts Road, will have to approach the church building by using 24th due to Street Rehab work on Graphic Arts.
