Lyon County Commissioners have approved the payment of additional costs related to the new Rocky Ford Bridge, which opened to traffic last month.
The additional cost, right around $94,000, submitted by Lyon County Engineer Wayne Scritchfield, was due to some additional rock excavation work as part of the bridge project.
Scritchfield explained the total cost of the additional work was closer to $100,000; however, due to cost savings from the project, they were able to bring the number down a bit. Also, Scritchfield says that since the project was under budget from original plans, the Kansas Department of Transportation will be assisting with the additional expenditure, covering 85 percent of the cost.
In other business, Scritchfield also submitted a request for himself, Seth Snyder and Matt Baysinger to attend the MINK Conference in St. Joseph, Missouri, September 16-17, with the county to pay an estimated $1,500 for registration fees and related travel expenses.
Separately, commissioners approved an invoice from Traffic Control Services for upfitting on a Chevy Silverado 1500 Unit for just over $13,000 for the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. $4,950 of that price will be paid for through the county’s miscellaneous contractual services fund, with the remaining $8,081 to be paid for through LF Furniture and Equipment.
Commissioners also received an update on services rendered by the Street Cats Club over the last eight months of 2028.
Commissioners will reconvene for their regular action meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
