Cyclosporiasis cases continue to increase in Kansas.
Six hundred fifteen cases were reported Wednesday by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The number is up from 461 a week ago.
This week’s report has 20 hospitalizations, steady from last week. Over 230 potential cases are now awaiting interviews.
Across the KVOE listening area, Lyon County had up to 5 cases in the first few weeks of the national outbreak. It is now up to 6 confirmed cases. Osage County remains at 10 cases. Coffey and Wabaunsee counties have up to 5 cases in each county. Chase, Greenwood and Morris counties remain with no cases.
Cyclosporiasis causes repeated cases of explosive diarrhea for anywhere from a week to a month, depending on whether patients get treatment. as well as nausea, occasional vomiting, loss of appetite and weight, cramps, bloating and a low-grade fever.
