Court processes have started after an arrest this week on suspected drug activity in Emporia.
Lance Harris had his first official appearance in Lyon County District Court on Thursday and will return for a preliminary hearing Sept 3. Judge Doug Jones set bond at $200,000 and appointed Steve Atherton as defense attorney.
Prosecutors have charged Harris with distributing at least 100 grams of methamphetamine, over 250 dosage units of fentanyl, at least 1,000 dosage units of ecstasy, up to 1,000 dosage units of hydrocodone and up to 100 grams of cocaine, as well as possessing paraphernalia and tetrahydrocannabinol, after an alleged incident July 31.
Meanwhile, one of two people arrested late last week for suspected drug activity has been charged in Lyon County District Court.
Melissa Dempsey, age 51 of Emporia, is charged with distributing up to 100 grams of meth, as well as 2 counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, after an alleged incident July 31. Bond has been set at $25,000. Paul Dean has been appointed as defense counsel. Dempsey’s preliminary hearing is Aug 24.
Formal charges have not been listed online for Daniel Jackson, age 42 of Winfield. Jackson was arrested on suspicion of distributing meth, possessing drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute a controlled substance, unlawful acquisition of drug transaction proceeds and using a communication facility to commit a felony drug violation after his arrest July 31.
