It’s another heat dome, meaning another few days of miserable heat for Kansas.
All area counties and much of the state are in an extreme heat warning until 7 pm Friday. Air temperatures will hit 100 Wednesday and stop just short of 100 for Thursday and Friday. Heat index readings are expected between 105-110.
It may seem excessive, but National Weather Service meteorologist Jenifer Prieto says this is a standard summer pattern.
With school coming soon, Prieto says next week will largely be hot — although maybe not to the level we are feeling this week.
With our prior heat waves this summer, we have told you about ways to beat heat. Prieto says all those methods apply the next few days.
Along with the heat, Thursday evening also has a marginal severe weather risk for possible 60 mph winds and quarter-sized hail. Areas along and north of a line from El Dorado to Teterville to Burlington, including Emporia, are in the marginal risk area.
