Two people were hurt and hospitalized after a crash near Emporia State University on Wednesday.
Emporia Police officers on Highland Street say a northbound car left Interstate 35 just of the box bridge connecting the main ESU campus to the area including the Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center and practice fields for unknown reasons shortly before 11 am. The car went through a guardrail and catchment fence before crossing Highland and crashing into a tree near the track and field throws practice area.
Both people were taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries. Names have not been released and other details are pending.
