Over $1 million in state grant funding is coming to SOS to help provide services to people in crisis in Lyon and surrounding counties.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has announced over $850,000 as part of the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Grant program. In general terms, this provides money for shelter, advocacy, planning, outreach and support services.
CASA of the Flint Hills gets over $61,000 through the Court Appointed Special Advocate Programs Grant. This money is dedicated to recruiting, training and supervising volunteers who serve as advocates for abused or neglected children as the kids go through different court processes.
The Child Advocacy Center gets over $90,000 through the Children’s Advocacy Centers Grant. This line item helps to recruit and train staff in the process of child-sensitive forensic interviews. It also offers money to coordinate multidisciplinary teams to enhance outcomes and it offers advocacy for child victims and non-offending caregivers.
The state funds are announced as the annual SOS Strong fundraising campaign is ending Friday. Fourteen people are working to raise at least $1,000 each while generating awareness about the SOS mission and its programs. Tickets are also now on sale for the annual Hope-A-Palooza, which is set for Sept 11 at the Emporia Granada Theatre. Comedian Ran’D Shine returns to Emporia as the featured entertainment. Tickets are $75 each, with the event also including dinner, drinks, an award ceremony and an auction.
