It’s been a different fair due to some schedule adjustments, but it has been a good Lyon County Fair.
Board Chair Aaron Armitage says residents liked having multiple activities going simultaneously.
There were three main changes from years past: a shorter carnival, the move of the demolition derby from its traditional status as the grandstand finale to the middle of the grandstand schedule and the resulting move of the tractor pull to close out the Fair. Armitage says carnival organizers told the Fair Board it was shortening its time in Emporia.
Armitage says the Premium Sale, while emotional, was a highlight once again. He thanked the buyers for their bids and recognition of the hard work done by 4-H participants.
Armitage says the recent change to include add-ons to the winning base bid was a good idea.
Other highlights for Armitage included Buck Rumble and Roll, including the dedication of the arena in memory of longtime Fair Board member Gregg Gasche, and the now-annual BBQ contest.
The weather was seasonally hot for the most part, but there were occasional storms and the Fair mostly missed out on the extreme heat seen for much of this week.
