The Emporia Sertoma Club is inviting one and all to enjoy the miniature train this weekend.
A special celebration is coming from 6:30-8:30 pm Saturday at Soden’s Grove. Club member Vicki Brooks says the event celebrates the Sertoma Club’s 25th season of operating the train.
Brooks says the celebration will help to cap off a solid year for the miniature train despite the recent heat.
Besides free train rides, the event will also feature popcorn, popsicles and bottled water courtesy of Sutherlands.
The summer train season ends Aug 30, although it can be booked for private parties. Hours through Aug 30 are 6:30-8:30 pm Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as 9-11 am Thursdays.
The train first began running in 1958 and has had several local groups handling operations. The Sertoma Club took over operations from the Early Bird Optimist Club after the summer 2001 season and has been managing the train since then.
