Labor Day is approaching, and law enforcement across the area and state are getting ready to take part in a special traffic enforcement campaign.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over begins Sunday and is designed to highlight the dangers of drunk or impaired driving, including injury or fatal crashes. Nationwide, nearly 12,000 people died due to drunk-driving crashes in 2024, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The campaign also demonstrates the financial costs associated with DUIs. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says a first-time offense can cost a drunk driver upwards of $10,000 in fines and legal fees.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over runs through Sept 7. Lyon County Corporal Collin Brozek will join KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segment following What’s In Outdoors around 8:50 am Friday with more information.
