Flint Hills Technical College is currently exploring the possibility of bringing more real-world work opportunities to students this year.
On the monthly Tech Talk with FHTC President Dr. Caron Daughterty Wednesday, Daugherty noted the college is in the process of “shoring up” a new apprenticeship program for students across their various departments. Daugherty noted the college currently has several “on-the-job training” models but nothing quite like this.
Some may wonder what the difference is between an apprenticeship and an internship, which the college currently has. Daugherty explained those differences, noting that internships are traditionally for a semester or two and part of a student’s curriculum towards their degree.
Meanwhile, an apprenticeship is more of a full-time employment opportunity.
Daugherty also says if the college can get these registered apprenticeship models up and running, they would provide benefits to the students and employers alike.
