Additional details have been released following an alleged attempted murder incident that led to the arrest of one individual last week.
According to Emporia Police Captain Ray Mattas, at approximately 4:50 pm this past Friday, officers were called to 110 West Sixth Avenue for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered that 69-year-old Maria Alcala had allegedly been cut across the forehead with a knife.
Alcala was transported to Newman Regional Health for treatment of her injuries. Meanwhile, 38-year-old Marisol Alcala was identified as the individual who supposedly cut Maria Alcala.
Marisol Alcala was disarmed by a witness to the crime before officers arrived and was taken into custody under suspicion of attempted murder. Formal charges are still pending at this time.
