A man is in custody following a vehicle accident Sunday that damaged a local eatery.
According to the Emporia Police Department, at approximately 4:15 pm Sunday, units were dispatched to the 1100 block of West Sixth for a report of a vehicle accident. An investigation would reveal that a 2022 Ford F250 pickup truck had left the Sonic restaurant parking lot at 1101 West Sixth when the driver, identified as 26-year-old Bryden Burk, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the outdoor patio of Las Catrinas.
Thankfully, nobody seated on the patio was harmed in the accident as they were able to move out of the way before the truck struck the area. The patio, however, did suffer “significant damage,” and Burk was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Word on formal charges is currently pending.
