Less than a week after SOS Inc. announced a nearly $24,000 grand total in donations through its annual SOS Strong campaign, the agency received another significant donation from a longtime contributor Monday afternoon.
Members of the Emporia Altrusa Club delivered a check to the SOS Offices Monday afternoon for $8,000 generated through the club’s annual golf tournament fundraiser. SOS Director Mickey Edwards says it was an exciting and welcome contribution and one that continued a long tradition of support from an agency that has stood by SOS since its earliest days.
Edwards says it is not an exaggeration to say that Altrusa’s early support played an important part in helping make SOS the agency it is today.
Edwards also stated she believes the early support of Altrusa helped to set a standard for community partners and residents for the years to come.
According to Edwards, the dollars donated by Altrusa will be used to help “fill the gaps” that cannot be filled by regular grants from the state and federal levels.
The donation comes just a few weeks before SOS’ annual Hope-A-Palooza, which will not only serve as the agency’s annual largest fundraiser, but also a time of recognition as part of the agency’s 50th anniversary activities.
