New body-worn cameras and dashboard cameras are coming soon for Lyon County deputies.
Lyon County commissioners approved 5 packages of body-worn and dashboard cameras for Sheriff’s Office vehicles as part of their meeting Thursday. Total cost is just over $45,000.
Lyon County Corporal Collin Brozek tells KVOE News this replaces current equipment dating back nearly a decade.
Brozek says body-worn cameras help law enforcement operations in several categories.
The goal is to rotate in the new cameras in stages.
New vehicles will arrive in October, and the overall goal is to replace the cameras when the vehicles are traded in. For now, the cameras have a docking system so they upload information into the department server. Within the next 2 years, though, Motorola will switch to a cloud-based system — which Brozek says will actually be easier for data storage.
Separately, commissioners approved a freezer equipment replacement inside the Sheriff’s Office at an estimated cost of over $12,000.
