The Emporia State volleyball team went 1-1 on the second day of the season Friday at the Ferris State Invitational. ESU started early with an 8:00 a.m. match and swept Illinois-Springfield 25-19, 25-13, 27-25. ESU used a 10-4 run to take set one before dominating the Prairie Stars in the second set on the way to an 18-5 lead. E-State had to fend off a 10-3 run from Springfield in the third to hang on for the sweep. Delainee Dexter had nine kills and 15 assists while Mia Frisbie added nine terminations out of the middle.
The second match was all Bulldogs as #10 Ferris State swept the Lady Hornets 25-15, 25-22, 25-13 in a match that started at 7:00 p.m. The Bulldogs hit a blistering .367 in the first set with just three errors. ESU played FSU tough in the second, but the Bulldogs were lights out in the third hitting .458 to put the match away. E-State was out hit .306 to .074 in the match. Lavra Krizanic had 10 kills. ESU (2-1) wraps up the event Saturday morning against Purdue University Northwest.
