A pair of entities with like-minded focuses teamed up Saturday afternoon for a new, engaging, and educational event that drew a strong turnout from residents.
Good Way Gardens hosted the inaugural Botanical Bingo event, which combined the classic game with botanical education, focusing on various plant species and their uses and benefits. Good Way Director Elexa Dawson says it was a logical event to host and a logical team-up with the Emporia Friends of the Zoo, the benefactors of the event, as they both focus on preservation and education of plant life among other topics.
EFOZ Board Member Colleen Mitchell agreed with this and added that partnerships like this are always a win-win for everyone involved, as it allows both entities to further their reach.
In addition to the game itself, participants were also treated to informational talks regarding all of the plant life on their bingo cards and they were also able to enjoy some refreshments such as signature drinks made by Dawson from plants and herbs grown right here in the local community. Dawson says that offering some signature drinks of this variety was another opportunity to educate residents as to the level of sustenance available to them, often located right in their own backyard.
