Emporia High opened the 2026 volleyball season with a pair of victories Saturday at the AVCTL Pre-Season Volleyball Tournament in Hutchinson.
The Lady Spartans finished the day 2-3, picking up wins over Wichita Campus and tournament host Hutchinson.
Emporia opened the tournament against Maize, taking the first set 25-22 before the Eagles rallied to win the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-19.
The Lady Spartans then fell to Andover Central in straight sets, 25-16 and 25-14.
Emporia bounced back in its third match, earning its first victory of the season with a 25-10, 25-14 sweep of Wichita Campus.
The Black and Red followed with another strong performance against host Hutchinson. After dropping the opening set 25-18, Emporia responded by winning the next two sets 25-13 and 25-12 to claim the three-set victory.
EHS closed out the tournament against Kapaun Mt. Carmel, falling 25-23 and 25-11.
The Lady Spartans will return to action Monday when they travel to Lansing for matches against the Lions and Topeka High.
