A grant from the Kansas Masonic Foundation will help get more Emporians the peace of mind that comes from smoke alarms.
Emporia Fire Marshal Stephen Beemer discussed the impact of a $5,000 grant from the Kansas Masonic Foundation on KVOE’s Morning Show on Monday. He says this will go a long way towards clearing out a backlog of installation request. Beemer says the Fire Department worked through the Emporia Masonic Lodge through the grant process.
As important as the actual number of smoke detectors installed is the lifesaving return on investment.
On the surface, it may be surprising such a program is so popular. But Beemer says there is a certain aspect of “out of sight, out of mind” when it comes to smoke alarms.
This project also fits into the Fire Department’s new “Safe at Home” information program.
