Daniel Campos and Brayden Sailer each found the back of the net in the first half Tuesday, helping Emporia High soccer open the season with a 2-0 victory over Chanute.
Campos got the Spartans on the board first, beating the Chanute goalkeeper for his first goal of the season.
Sailer then doubled Emporia’s advantage before halftime, picking up where he left off last season as the Spartans took a 2-0 lead into the break.
Emporia’s defense did the rest, standing tall to secure the shutout.
The Black and Red improve to 1-0 and will hit the road again Thursday for a matchup at Seaman.
