Public comment returns to the meeting slate as Emporia city commissioners meet in person Wednesday.
The City Commission and Planning Commission meetings were held without public comment availability after a series of threats to commissioners and city staff that began developing several weeks ago. The threats, most connected to the city’s inquiries into a possible data center, remain under investigation by Emporia Police.
Public comment will take place immediately after a pair of proclamations and ahead of the action meeting business, which includes the purchase of a dump truck for snow removal, the project award for the city’s Safe Routes to Schools program through the Kansas Department of Transportation, a basketball goal replacement for White Auditorium’s arena and discussions about a Community Fisheries Assistance Program grant for improvements at the Peter Pan Park pond.
The study meeting follows with a budget discussion, economic development agreement conversation and 2 executive sessions: one for legal matters and one for third-party confidential data related to economic development.
The action meeting starts at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room. The study meeting follows at the White Auditorium Wheeler Conference Room.
