Hot and dry conditions are locked into place until later stages of next week.
An extreme heat warning continues for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties until 7 pm Tuesday. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a heat advisory ongoing until 8 pm Tuesday.
For Emporia, air temperatures will be around 100 through at least Wednesday. Heat index readings will be anywhere from 102-105. Wet-bulb temperatures, which indicate how sweat cools the body and set up potential schedule adjustments for outdoor athletics activities, will be between 86-88 degrees. This leads to orange- and red-level adjustments through the Kansas State High School Activities Association, meaning shorter and delayed practices.
