There’s a lot on the agenda for the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education’s meeting this week.
The first part of the meeting deals with the budget, specifically a public hearing before likely approval. The hearing for the Revenue Neutral Rate has been canceled because the district has determined it will not exceed RNR, thus the hearing is not needed.
Most of the attention, however, will be focused on the middle of the meeting, where the school board is set to vote on whether to close Logan Avenue Elementary to continue the cost containment process identified late last year. USD 253 has said the closure will lead to around $1.4 million in savings for the district.
Board members have other items to consider, including a report on the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Support to help student academics, behavioral and social-emotional needs, school bus purchases and health insurance renewal. Executive sessions are planned for unspecified personnel matters and evaluation of Superintendent David McGehee.
The meeting will be at Mary Herbert Education Center and will be slightly ahead of the normal schedule. Meetings typically begin at 6 pm, but the meeting Wednesday will begin at 5:45 pm to allow for the budget hearing.
