The Emporia State football and volleyball teams have entered the Top 25 at the same time for the first time in school history. Hornet football is ranked No. 24 in the AFCA coaches poll and No. 22 in the D2Football.com media poll after their victory over #10 Pittsburg State on Saturday moving their record to 2-0 for the season. Lady Hornet volleyball is No. 25 in the AVCA poll after rolling through the Sioux Falls Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record last weekend. ESU is the only team in the MIAA with ranked football and volleyball teams and are one of just four schools in the country to pull off the feat this season. Ferris State is the unanimous No. 1 in the football poll with all 31 first-place votes and is also tops in the volleyball poll with 36 out of 46 first-place votes. Northwest Missouri is No. 7 in the football poll while ESU’s opponent this weekend, Michigan Tech, entered the poll at No. 20. Washburn is No. 4 in the volleyball poll with Nebraska-Kearney No. 7, Missouri Western 10th, and Central Oklahoma 22nd. The Lady Hornets are in action tonight as they face the Newman Jets in a non-conference match. ESU football celebrates Opening Day at Welch Stadium on Saturday as they host the Huskies for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
