The weather pattern is changing, but it will still be a hot day before the changes become more evident.
The extreme heat warning covering Lyon and most surrounding counties for over a week, along with the heat advisory for Chase County, have all expired, although Greenwood County’s heat advisory was extended and now ends at 8 pm Wednesday. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers is expecting highs in the upper 90s and heat index readings as high as 102 Wednesday, following a record high of 103 Tuesday.
Showers and storms may form ahead of a cold front Wednesday afternoon, bringing a marginal risk for 60 mph wind and 1-inch hail along with much-needed rainfall. For now, Wednesday afternoon and evening is the only chance for severe weather — but it’s not the only chance for rain now setting up into next week.
Temperatures will definitely reset, with highs in the low 80s Thursday, around 90 degrees Friday and 80s for the weekend.
After indicating drier conditions earlier this week, the National Weather Service Forecast Points information page now indicates possibly over 0.60 inches of rainfall from Wednesday afternoon through lunchtime Thursday. The information portal also indicates up to 1.5 inches of rain for the weekend and additional rainfall Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
