A full construction timetable will be developed later, but Hartford has the foundation for the path forward after its City Hall was recently demolished due to severe weather earlier this year.
Following a City Council meeting Wednesday, Mayor Kenny Hamman says board members reached a unanimous consensus to build at the prior City Hall location.
The goal is to work with MRSK Buildings on the design and construction. The city is looking at a single-story building, instead of the prior multi-level building.
Hamman says the city is looking to revive a combination city hall and community center.
The goal is to have the building up this fall. Cost estimates will come later. Some other components will also be decided later, including the possible presence of a storm shelter.
In the meantime, city business is taking place in temporary space just west of the Community Center. A handicapped-accessible ramp may well be installed over the next week.
A windstorm July 4 partially peeled off the building’s roof and caused other structural damage, especially near the roof. The city quickly deemed the building, constructed in the early 1880s, beyond repair. Leiser Excavating finished its demolition work this past Friday after nearly a week’s worth of work.
