Demonstrations and ceremonies are planned throughout the day Friday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
This includes the annual Random Acts of Patriotism, which will take place on the Melvern Bridge overlooking Interstate 35 from sunup to sundown. All are welcome to attend the event, which will see a large display of American flags adorning the overpass and exit and on-ramps.
Later that evening, Emporia’s American Legion Post 5 will host a gathering and time of remembrance on the post’s grounds starting at 6:30 pm with an opportunity for individuals to share their personal stories and memories from 9/11.
In between these activities, the Emporia Fire Department will be hosting a gathering to commemorate the 25th anniversary at Emporia Fire Station 1 beginning at 9 am. Again, all activities are free and open to the public.
