The Emporia State soccer team led 2-0 at halftime and never trailed on the way to an emphatic 5-1 victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Monday at the ESU Pitch. E-State jumped on OBU early with two goals by Megan Kephart in the first 15 minutes of the match. The Bison scored just three minutes after halftime, but Kephart notched her third goal with just under 30 minutes left and the Lady Hornets tacked on scores by Taylor McFalls and Avery Zimmerman to cinch the match. E-State dominated possession again outshooting the visitors 19-8 and 14-6 in shots on goal generating five corner kicks while surrendering just one. Head coach Jane Grimley-Gunn says the team had been focused on playing their style of soccer.
Kephart, who now has five goals on the season, said the team is gaining confidence ahead of their MIAA opener Friday.
ESU (3-2-1) opens ‘Association’ play against Nebraska-Kearney on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
