Inpatient Rehabilitation Week is coming to an end, and Newman Regional Health’s department director joined KVOE’s Morning Show this week to discuss the work of her staff.
Jessie Boyce says inpatient rehab is geared towards patients suffering from several medical conditions, including stroke, surgery, injury or serious illness. The goal is to help patients reclaim their physical health and their independence — and the process is not easy.
Inpatient Rehab is on the second floor, with 10 patient beds, a small gymnasium and a Simulated Living Suite.
Boyce says there are several aspects to the inpatient rehab team, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, rehab nursing and care coordination. She says patients have different needs as they come to inpatient rehab.
Boyce says the team is dedicated to patient success — no matter how big or, seemingly, how small.
Inpatient Rehab Week actually culminates Friday, in part, with the Cora Miller Hall Legacy Reflection and Memory Collection event at 1 pm Friday at the Newman Conference Center. People are encouraged to reflect on the history and impact of the building, share personal stories, view photos and other artifacts and bring their own historical information for upcoming preservation work. Building demolition continues after starting earlier this month.
