Emporians who receive commodity food boxes will see a change in the program soon.
For years, the Salvation Army has handled that operation locally. Now Radical Life and Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church will provide that service.
Radical Life, 528 Sylvan, will be the first location for the new structure September 29. On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Radical Life founder Lindsay Smith says it will be an easy process to take food home.
Smith says the food boxes have a lot included.
Both Smith and Salvation Army Capt. Mylie Hadden have said the Kansas Department for Children and Families went with Radical Life as the lead partner for the commodity food program. Hadden says the Salvation Army was struggling to secure volunteers before the decision was made.

*Dec. 1: Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church, 2023 west 12th
*Feb. 2: Radical Life
*March 30: Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church
*June 1: Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church
*Aug. 3: Radical Life
Smith says First Church of the Nazarene, Life Church and Victory Fellowship Church are also coming together on this service.
All distribution events will be from 3-5 pm. Food from the Kansas Food Bank will actually arrive shortly after noon, with volunteers then working to unpack and divide the food before people arrive for pickup.
