Political appearances are heating up.
Following a stop by US Senate candidate Democrat Adam Hamilton in Emporia earlier this week, two other Democrats are making appearances in town Saturday. Juan Luengo, the party’s candidate for State Treasurer, and Mark Remmert, the Democrat candidate for Kansas House 13th District, will be at Peter Pan Park from 11 am to 2 pm.
Voter registration will be available.
Remmert is running against incumbent Republican Duane Droge. Luengo, meanwhile, is running against Republican Steven Johnson and Libertarian Eric Lund.
As mentioned, this event will follow Hamilton’s recent appearance in Emporia, where he, before speaking with residents at Emporia’s Granada Theatre, stopped by the KVOE studios to discuss a variety of topics, including the war with Iran, which has led to record prices at the fuel pump. In Hamilton’s opinion, whether he is elected to the U.S. Senate or not, he feels Congress needs to put more pressure on the President to end the conflict as soon as possible.
The increase in gas prices is not the only one being seen and felt by American citizens, as the general cost of living continues to rise in part due to the ongoing tariff war between the US and other countries such as Canada. Hamilton says it is his opinion that many individuals are aware of tariffs, but do not fully comprehend what they mean for them.
Hamilton equated the tariff war to a regular customer at a local business suddenly being mistreated by the staff, saying that if you mistreat them long enough, those long-term customers will be taking their business elsewhere.
As has been the case for years when it comes to state politics, the topic of Medicaid and Medicaid expansion came up during our interview with Hamilton. Hamilton noted that, on this topic, it is a state-level issue; however, he believes it could be advanced through influence at the Federal level.
Hamilton also noted recent cuts to Medicaid as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill that he sees as a major concern not only for those seeking health care, but those providing it as well.
Hamilton, pastor of the Church of the Resurrection with several churches in the Kansas City metro area, is seeking to replace incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who is seeking his second term in the Senate after serving 2 terms in the US House of Representatives.
